LOVES PARK, Illinois — (Dec. 11, 2023) — Kira Carte has been appointed as the president of The Superhero Center for Autism’s board of directors, effective Dec. 7, 2023.

Billy Kulpa, the outgoing president, is stepping down from the board. He joined in 2021 and previously served as communications director and vice president.

“I am tremendously proud of the work the Superhero Center has accomplished,” Kulpa said. “We have registered more than 350 families, expanded our open gym hour offerings, built out a large volunteer base, and increased our fundraising capabilities during my time here.

“The Center’s ability to help families in need is stronger than ever,” Kulpa added.

Carte joined the board in July 2022 as events director before being promoted to vice president. She has overseen a significant expansion in The Superhero Center for Autism’s events since joining the board, including a trunk-or-treat event each Halloween that serves more than 1,000 children each year.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Superhero Center for Autism’s legacy,” Carte said. “I am committed to advancing our organization’s mission of helping children and families with autism. The Center serves a community that is growing every day.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to serve these children and families at the Superhero Center,” said Carte. “I am excited to continue this work as president and look forward to new and exciting growth moving forward!”

Carte works as a registered behavior technician (RBT) trainer at Westside Children’s Therapy. She resides in Monroe Center, Illinois, with her husband and children.

Treasurer Jake Maliszewski has assumed the vacant vice president’s role. He will continue to serve as the board’s treasurer. Alexa Bois, Dr. Kelly Bond, and Paige Kazy-Garey have also joined the board as administrator, network director, and parent education director, respectively. Kelly Dinsmore, Stephanie Kulpa, and Jim Taylor will continue to serve as secretary, parent liaison director, and communications director.

The Superhero Center for Autism, founded in 2015, is a non-profit organization offering support, education, and resources for individuals with autism and other special needs and their families. The community center, located 4205 Galleria, Loves Park, is a judgment-free place where kids can be safe, be empowered, be supported, and be themselves.
